This course is designed to prepare the student for the practical skills and written examinations for Pump Operator certification. Class work will include: safe driving techniques, preventative maintenance, pump operations, hydraulic calculations, water supply and apparatus systems.
The course begins inside the classroom and ends outside with pumping apparatus. The main emphasis of this course is on “hands-on” exercises using various types of pumps, hose sizes and nozzles. This course alone is not designed to produce expert pump operators. Students must apply the basics learned from this course with continued hands-on practical applications with apparatus in their departments to build and maintain proficiency in pump apparatus operations.
